Young German Muslims in Turkish Islamic Theology

Episode Summary

For some young German Muslims with Turkish background, Islam becomes an object of academic study, as they travel to Turkey to seek higher Islamic education at universities. Maximilian Lasa has investigation what motivates these young Germans, and what they gain from studying Islam abroad. In this episode, he lays out some of his findings and describes that both notions of Islam and of one’s identity are changed during the time of studying and going abroad.
